The countryside

Make your stay an adventure, put on your walking, running or riding boots and really take advantage of where you are situated. Built in the same field as an ancient Hardham Roman Camp, there is a pervading feel of history. Previous visitors to this prehistoric resting place include Julius Caesar, Ethelred the Unready and King Constantine.

Explore the wealth of green lanes, bridle paths and footpaths, embark on endless wonderful walks, runs or bike rides through dramatic scenery.

Wander up the valley along the old branch line to have lunch at nearby pub. Or, if you are more determined, walk across the magnificent Amberley wild brooks (weather permitting) to eat in one of the Amberley Pubs, or why not have lunch in the castle?

With exclusive use of half a mile of the Rother bank, and shared use of half a mile of one bank of the Arun, there are plenty of fishing opportunities; good runs and difficult big fish.

Book in advance and take advantage of our nearby riding stables.

The house overlooks a registered wading bird breeding area.  Within walking distance are two RSPB reserves, and when the brooks are flooded, there are often hundreds of birds which can be viewed from front bedrooms.

Ask your host for excellent seasonal ideas, including picnicking and bike riding through the network of routes around the South Downs.
