Self Catering Houses for All Occasions
The Dallyn family moved onto this brookland farm as tenants from the harshness of the North Devon Moors in 1876. Being part of a great migration of farming families eastward into Sussex.
Everything about House on the Brooks is an opulent fusion of the old and the new: the double height Saxon-inspired central hall, the exposed roof beams and classic interior design are all reminiscent of times gone by, infused with modern equipment and amenities which hold you firmly in the comfort of the here and now.Re-claimed or second hand materials have been used wherever possible, you will marvel at the size of the massive railway bridging timbers used in the construction, and your eye be pleased by the re-claimed old clay tiles on the roof continuing the green tradition of no insecticides or pesticides used on the farm.
And the love goes on; in our first year we were awarded Five Star status by Visit England, the recognised government tourist body. In our third year this was upgraded to five gold stars. This is a rare award and is a reflection of the dedication of the whole team that now runs the house, to ensure that the welcome and our guests stay is like being enveloped into a well run, discreet house. The team headed by Michelle Matthews all work hard to ensure comfortable and effortless pleasure in your stay. The project to build a romantic and special self-catering house in this wonderful location on the farm was a work of passion, by a team who had spent the previous ten years working happily together converting barns and farm buildings. The "Saxon Hall" style designed interior with exposed roof timbers was built by local master craftsman Rodney Elliot, who was born in the parish, alongside his son Gary, captain of the village cricket team. Beloved Johnny, Tina, Keith, Michelle, Leon, Jim and crew, two of the younger Marchant Lanes, Martin and son-in-law Tim, cousins Joe and Nick, and to put the hat on, the master roofer Darren. Everyone who worked on the House enjoyed making House on the Brooks a special countryside home. Feel the love.
